Deconstruction: The 1st Phase In Sustainable Building

At Advanced Restoration, we like to think of ourselves as an environmentally friendly company.  That is why we started a division of our company that specializes in the deconstruction and disassembly of residential and small commercial buildings throughout Long Island.  We are at the forefront of awareness and application of deconstruction principles as they apply to promoting reuse and recycling as a competitive tool for building demolition projects.

Advanced Restoration has the ability to remove as much or as little of the structure as required by our clients.  Almost all of the building materials are salvaged, reused or recycled.  This includes interior finishes, structural framing members, flooring, wall and roof sheathing, windows and doors, landscaping elements and foundation materials. This type of deconstruction almost always requires a longer time period than straight demolition, and some current municipal regulations limit the circumstances where this option is possible.

The foundation of our building deconstruction work is our solid relationships with both public and private clients who have the confidence to rely on our experience and years of expertise in the building industry on Long island to make their vision a reality.  We understand that beginning a new project, although exciting, can also be a stressful time for you. We strive to make the process easier on you by planning carefully and taking steps to ensure all work is performed in a safe, professional manner.

Advanced Restoration steadily built a reputation not only for extensive recycling of building materials, but also for our clean job sites and timely completion of projects. Our professionalism, flexibility, and open communication will not only meet, but exceed your expectations.  We maximize the amount of used building materials recycled or salvaged for use in order to save dwindling landfill space, natural resources, embodied energy, and the creation of additional greenhouse gases.

What Types of Buildings Are Most Likely To Be Considered for Deconstruction?

Buildings exhibiting one or more of the following characteristics are likely to be good deconstruction candidates:

Wood-framed with heavy timbers and beams, or with unique woods such as douglas fir, American chestnut, and old growth southern yellow pine

Constructed with specialty materials such as hardwood flooring, multi-paned windows, architectural mouldings, and unique windows, doors, plumbing, and/or electrical fixtures

Constructed with high-quality brick laid with low-quality mortar (to allow relatively easy break-up and cleaning)

Structurally sound, i.e., generally weather-tight to minimize rotted and decayed materials
