It is important to understand the basic characteristics of fire. Fire spreads quickly; there is no time to gather valuables or make a phone call. In just two minutes, a fire can become life-threatening. In five minutes, a residence or business can be engulfed in flames.
In the event of a fire, remember time is the biggest enemy and every second counts!
Escape first, then call for help. Develop a fire escape plan and designate a meeting place outside.
Never stand up in a fire, always crawl low under the smoke and try to keep your mouth covered. Never return to a burning building for any reason. Having a working smoke alarm dramatically increases your chances of surviving a fire.
Remember to practice an escape plan and have an Emergency Preparedness/Business Continuity Plan in place.
